Mary Ann Jones Black was born 14 March 1895 in Pacheco, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico to Eva Minerva Black and James William Palmer. She first married Marvin Willard Jones on 6 February 1913 in San Juan, Colorado. They had 13 children. Mary next married Chester Allen Black 17 March 1967 in Manti, Sanpete, Utah.
